Volunteering & Shadowing

For undergraduate and medical students interested in performing shadow shifts in the Emergency Department.

Medical Students

Current LSU and Tulane Medical Students who are members of the Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) are able to sign up for shadow shifts through the EMIG Calendar. Final approval is based on shift availability and at discretion of the Clerkship Director, Dr. Elizabeth Clement.


 

Undergraduate Students - THIS PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID

Undergraduate Students with an interest in the medical field can sign up for an Emergency Department observation shift. Students must complete the Observership Application and gain approval through the UMC Education Office via Ms. Michelle Edwards. In addition students will be required to submit the following:

  • Proof of negative PPD skin test within one year of the observation date

  • Proof of 2 MMR vaccines

  • Proof of varicella vaccine or the date which you had chicken pox

  • Proof of influenza vaccine within the last 12 months (required if the rotation occurs between November 1st and March 31st)

Completed application and required documents may be submitted to Michelle Edwards via email (michelle.edwards@LCMCHealth.org) or via fax (504-702-2305). Once approval is obtain, students may schedule shifts by emailing the Clerkship Director, Dr. Elizabeth Clement (ecleme@lsuhsc.edu).
