Volunteering/Shadowing in the Emergency Department


Current LSU Medical Students and Tulane Medical Students (M1-M4) who are members of your EMIG organization are able to sign up for Emergency Department Shadow Shifts through the EMIG Volunteer Program. Final approval is based on shift availability and at discretion of Dr. Clement, Director of Emergency Medicine Student Clerkships.



For Pre-Med students with an interest in gaining exposure to a career in Medicine and specifically in Emergency Medicine, you can sign up for an Undergraduate Observation shift. You must first complete the registration and approval process through the UMC Education Office with Ms. Michelle Edwards.

You will need to complete the Observership Application and must submit it along with the following required documentation to Ms. Edwards:

  • Proof of negative B skin test within one year of the observation date
  • Proof of 2 MMR vaccines
  • Proof of varicella vaccine or the date which you had chicken pox
  • Proof of influenza vaccine within the last 12 months if shadowing will occur between November 1 through March 31

Once the UMC application process has been completed, you will be able schedule your Observer Shift through Dr. Clement, Director of Emergency Medicine Student Clerkships (email: ecleme@lsuhsc.edu)
